Formentera is home to around 12,000 people year-round. This limited population and a focus on maintaining the island's original qualities have meant that the villages and towns have changed and grown little over the years. The few exceptions are the resort of Es Pujols, the port La Savina and the island capital San Francisco, where many of the islanders are based.
Es Pujols is the island's only established holiday resort: here, a good number of restaurants and bars can be found, and it is the centre of the island's nightlife.
The port, La Savina, is the gateway to the island and offers great places to eat and lovely bars dotted around the main harbour to relax and refresh.
The island's capital, San Francisco, is centred around a stunning church and square, with shops, restaurants and bars for holidaymakers and locals to enjoy.
The villages of San Fernando, Es Caló and El Pilar de la Mola all have their own distinct Mediterranean charms and feel almost like they belong to another era. In these places, you will notice that time seems to go more slowly, and everything moves at a very relaxed pace.
