Bringing you key current news about Ibiza, including restaurants, hotels, clubs and MUCH more. Know this; know Ibiza.

Sometimes ‘relaxed' is good. With IMS (the world famous International Music Summit) having started and set to rock the island for three days, followed by the “Opening Weekend” (Ibizas super clubs welcome in the new season with some of the greatest clubbing parties known to man) ‘relaxed' this week was good.

Ibiza Spotlight Kite Surfing Cala Martina

Of course, one of the nicest places to chill out is the beach. Beaches with picturesque beach bars, serving freshly caught fish and ice cold beers, whilst you sit back and watch kite surfers jump the waves. Oh yes.

Hotel of the Week.

Ibiza Spotlight Hotel Tagomago

With the idea of chilling out with friends, Ibiza Spotlight has an amazing list of hotels that accept group booking for friends. Les, our Hotel Expert, thought this one was definitely worthy for you. Ideal for relaxing but not missing out. Sea and pool, right on your doorstep!

Hotel Tagomago in the Bay of San Antonio

Great location in the Bay of San Antonio but near to the beach-front promenade for a 10 to 15-minute stroll into San Antonio itself and the famed sunset bars. It's right next to a little sandy beach and there's plenty happening around; bars, restaurants, live music, shopping.......
It's run by the family which owns the hotel and you'll always be made welcome, say hello to Luis, the Manager, you'll make his day!”

Villa of the Week.

Ibiza Spotlight Can Mariano

KT, our Villa Expert, mindful of both relaxing and not missing a single party, found the gorgeous Can Mariano. It's perfect for groups of up to twelve people and situated in a quiet residential area of Ibiza Town whilst giving you access to everything. From just 29€ pppn, in May (which it is now and the sun's shining) this is a fabulous example of Ibiza as a whole – great value for money!
If you think the pool looks gorgeous, you should see the bedrooms!
Check out Can Mariano!

Club news of the Week.

I had a coffee with Ibiza Spotights club team earlier this week. These guys and girls know everyone! The DJ's that people fly in from around the World to enjoy, our club team is in there, talking with them personally.

This week the chat was all about IMS (the aforementioned International Music Summit) and then the Opening Weekend.
Stivi, our Club Expert, summed up it up perfectly:

"...it's a massive week in Ibiza for both clubbers and the clubbing industry. First, the 5th IMS, Ibiza International Music Summit, is happening. This is the ultimate industry meeting, all the big shots (and some legends) are here and the summit climaxes with the Grand Finale Festival up in Dalt Vila (UNESCO world heritage site) on Friday 25th May (tomorrow!)
There are still some tickets left for this and here you'll find more info about the history of the IMS

Also, this week is the kick off to the 2012 clubbing season on our beloved island. Opening parties galore! Gone is the calm period and the beats start to rule Ibiza again. Make sure you're well prepared and have loads of stamina! Read our opening party guide See you on the dance floors!"

Now you see why ‘relaxed' was so important to me this week!

Things to Do.

Ibiza effortlessly manages to blend relaxed with a little culture too. This week I visited the space that is the B12 Gallery. A warehouse of some 425m², it is quite a venue. Until 2nd June there is a photography exhibition, from photographers Iness Schramm, Daniel Balda & Valentina Riccardi.

Ibiza Spotlight B12 Gallery

I'm not really the artsy type – and nor was my guest! – but we found the exhibition quite captivating and the gallery itself is a wonderful space to just step away from the World for a little while. If you've time, pop in! Days later, I'm still contemplating some of the images!

Restaurants of the Week.

Having so enjoyed the Aura Opening, I popped back a few nights later to try their new 2012 signature dish – actually one of two. It was a lovely evening – if you find yourself wanting to have an evening out of town before rocking up at either IMS or one of the Openings this weekend, Aura is definitely an option.
I particularly love that regardless the calibre of the restaurant, if you book dinner before 20.15 your children eat for free. What a nice touch for holidaying families. (and then the babysitter can take over!)

Ibiza Spotlight Aura Dinner, San lorenzo

A few nights later I had a great night at La Oliva, Dalt Vila. Just for fun I took a friend who really isn't into food. In fact he admits that he resents spending money on it. As we finished our starter he confessed he was going to bring his girlfriend! It just got better from there. Check it out!

Looking Ahead.

Ok, so I admit it – IMS and Opening Weekend has my attention too. However I can't party 24hrs a day…

The first ‘Stand Up Paddle Competition' from Cala d' Hort this coming Sunday looks like quite an event. Just take a look at the pictures!
Add to that a Hawaiian beach party and DJ's – sounds wonderful! It's due to start on the Sunday at 10am.

The Festival of San Jordi – right beside Ibiza Town – sounds like a fabulous way to see and get involved in the traditional elements of Ibiza. From decorated carriages, dance displays and finally of course food, this sounds like real fun.

If you're checking this out today (24th May) don't forget Carl Cox is down at Sands right now for their Summer Opening. In the mood for starting your weekend early? Here's the map!

On behalf of the team at Ibiza Spotlight, wishing you and yours a great weekend!,

Cat Milton.
