Kites in the sky in San Antonio

Place your own "star" in the sky this Sunday.

To thrill the big kid inside you and for a seasonal event for the whole family, make your way to the annual kite flying day in San Antonio this Sunday 26 January.

Each year, the San Antonio fiesta programme includes the kite-flying event, Posa un estel al cel, which from the Catalan translates as “Place a star in the sky”.

The action takes place in the middle of the Sunset Strip, just after where Mint Lounge is located from 11:00 to 14:00. Just look up and walk to where you see the kites

Each year locals make homemade kites or launch slick stunt competition ones into the sky for a late morning full of fun.

Whether small DIY airborne craft or professionally made gliders, all are flown with love and pride.

Kite flying is a pastime that's been enjoyed for over 3000 years and is still a popular worldwide sport.

They have been used for a variety of reasons through the ages from warding away evil spirits and scaring the birds to forecasting the weather.

Make your way to San Antonio this Sunday for a profusion of colourful kites painting the sky.
