The island's transport department has just announced that it will spend €1.4 million next year on the production of a new map of Ibiza's highways and byways. The burning question is will the improvements to the San Jose to Ibiza road be included on the map. Like our other recent road improvements, the Santa Eulalia bypass and the San Antonio northern ring road, the San Jose project has been dogged by problems and delays. Only a few months ago the company which was due to carry out the work pulled out because it considered that the money it was being paid was insufficient to complete the job. In fact, the authorities have just had to increase the existing €7 million budget by 10 % in the hope of finding a suitable contractor to do the work which involves straightening out some of the dangerous bends on the road.
