Review: Sander van Doorn and Mark Knight at Space July 11th

Sander van Doorn and Mark Knight headline Mondays Calling at Space.

Luckily in Ibiza everyday is like the weekend, and on Monday there is no shortage of parties to attend. This Monday I headed over to Space for the Mondays Calling party to check out two of trance and progressive house's biggest names headlining in the Terraza: Sander van Doorn and Mark Knight.

When I arrived at 2:30 am, I wandered into the Terraza where Sander van Doorn was well into his set. There were numerous performers dressed in costumes to a circus theme. Clowns, acrobats, jugglers, and people dressed as lions in cages were interspersed within the crowd. Sander had the crowd dancing nonstop, and true to his reputation you couldn't pigeonhole his set into one specific genre of music. His set was a blend of house and trance with hints of everything else in between. He played some of his classics such as “Riff” and “Grasshopper”, as well as his recent more commercial track “Love Is Darkness” that the crowd excitedly sang along to. He also smashed out one of my favorites, the recently released “Koko”. Numerous tracks from his new compilation CD “From Dusk Til Doorn” were played, as well as the Eric Prydz's recent remix of Depeche Mode's “Personal Jesus”, which personally was the highlight of his set for me.

Mark Knight closed the night with a set filled with upbeat house and progressive tunes, including his remix of Florence and the Machine's “You've Got the Love”, which seems to practically be an Ibiza anthem this summer, played at almost every single party I've attended.

Mondays Calling give the house and trance loving clubber a great alternative to Club Life by Tiesto for a Monday night, as well as a slightly different crowd and more intimate atmosphere than Cream at Amnesia or Space's Be party on Wednesday nights. It's one party not to miss if you're on the island on a Monday.
