2011 must surely go down as the year hip hop finally made an impression on the island. Curtis James Jackson III plays at Amnesia on August 12th.
Replacing Duran Duran, who had to withdraw after Simon Le Bon got a dodgy throat, is East Coast rapper 50 Cent, without doubt one of the most commercially succesful musicians of the last decade. Bursting onto the scene in 2003 with the track 'In Da Club', this protégée of Dr.Dre and Eminem has since gone onto sell 30 million albums worldwide and associations with his G-Unit Records label include artists like The Game, Lloyd Banks and Young Buck.
A slightly different style from Duran Duran of course, 'Fiddy' is the latest in a string of hip hop and RnB artists to have hit Ibiza this summer, the biggest being Snoop Dogg of course, but also De La Soul, Usher, Ludacris and P.Diddy has made his annual jaunt to the island too. Tickets on sale now.

I have been one of the biggest critics of this wave on nonsense that is occuring at the moment. However, it's just a phase, and I am sure it will end soon, and things will revert to normal. The Guetta / SHM backlash hasn't happend yet.... and still every RnB star wants a piece of the action...
"No matter how much money is washing around, or how long the queues behind the velvet rope, Ibiza has a way of puncturing the most pretentious egos."
Certainly used to.
"Ibiza, on the other hand, can survive anything except being overrun by idiots with full pockets, empty heads and cloth ears. Pop stars are welcome on the island, as long as they get what it’s about and bring something fresh and interesting to the mix."
Well said.

50 cent, Usher, Snoop all making appearances in Ibiza in 2011, when in 2000 Armand Van Helden was literally thrown of the decks on the terrace in Space for playing hip hop! How times have changed!

Also remember him doing his DJ play-offs like something off jets vs. sharks. He'd drop Jungle Brothers - I'll House You and everyone would go mental jumping up and down and singing along. I even still have the record..
This'll do :

Still a far cry from 50 Cent tho', let's be fair (altho' I will admit to buying the original NWA album and learning the words  !!)

I just don't get why its suddenly happening loads.
FYI, When 50 Cent played Funky Buddha here apparently he didn't rap he just kept saying '50 IN DAH HOUSE... 50 IN DAH HOUSE...'
