Review: The Prodigy Make History at Ibiza Rocks

They came, they rocked and they conquered. Ibiza's music history had a new chapter written last night and we were honoured to witness it.

After last week's maximum fun with Maxïmo Park, the big one... the event nobody wanted to miss... yep, the 5th birthday of Ibiza Rocks with The Prodigy. Second sold out of the season (Dizzee Rascal next week will be the third one) with the place rammed from the beginning!

South Central opened and, like last year, the set of the hooded duo was absolutely killer. The funniest moment of the evening arrived during their set when a little kid in the VIP (the raving baby as the ressie Doorly called him later) started jumping and waving his arms like the people downstairs. He had the entire audience cheering at him for a long while... a totally cool kid (I suppose this answers to people asking if children are allowed or if there's an age restriction)!

BBC Radio 1's Rob Da Bank was next... I love Roberto Del Banko and his eclectic sets so what can I say? I enjoyed every second of the music he played!

And then the chaos with The Prodigy. Their second time playing on the island (first one was back in 1992) was for many, me included, one of the best nights of their lives. "Experience" and "Music for the jilted generation" had a big impact on me, at a time the most electronic stuff my ears could accept was Skinny Puppy/Front Line Assembly/KMFDM/Ministry/Nine Inch Nails/Scorn and other industrial bands like that, so having the chance to see them live was a dream come true. Apart from the expected classics from their first three albums, during their 80 minute long concert they played eight songs from their last album "Invaders must die" but none from the previous one "Always outnumbered, never outgunned" (not even "Spitfire"). Quite simply one of the best concerts I've ever been to!

On a curious note, the guys from Detroit Social Club loved Ibiza so much some of them had to come back one month after their support gig for Ian Brown to party for a few days. At the end of the night I had a chat with the singer and he assured me he'll be visiting the island often from now on... good man. Anyway, feliz cumpleaños Ibiza Rocks!

Favourite moment of the night: "Smack my bitch up", during which people was asked to get down on the floor and then jump back up again... something Slipknot (a band Liam Howlett loves) has been doing for donkeys and that was really cool to experience!
