The script says that the Ibiza's noisy season starts when Space opens, which is next Sunday on June 5. But the weekend just been Bora Bora, El Divino, Underground and others demonstrated a gift for improvisation.

Everyplace was mighty lively. First stop for many revellers was the Friday night opening of Bora Bora, who deserve congratulations for their design evolution. All the elements that made it so famous – wobbly blue tables, Dj Gee, throngs of smiling faces – were in place.

The previously seldom-used glass edifice to the right of the newly refurbished loos was opened at midnight, and filled shortly thereafter like everybody had been doing this for years (see above).
Musically the opening veered between back-in-the-day classics and more modern, boppy house numbers. In response the enthusiastic and atypically unmessy crowd went la la at all the right bits. The Ibiza Spotlight Club Research Tactical Unit retreated to Underground at around 2am, where it disbanded after coming under sustained friendly fire.
On the other side of the island Bar M paid ladies to take their clothes off, but we missed it completely. If you happened to attend please make your way to the forums and tell us how it went.
Most of Pacha was open, tho they did not have to contend with the quite ridiculous queues over the road at the opening of El Divino. This impressive effort was presumably due to their fresh and committed PR team ‘cos it’s certainly got nothing to do with their uninformative web site, www.eldivino-ibiza.com.
Reports from those who did rush the outnumbered security and make it inside were positive. Palace of afterhour wrongness, Lucifer, also benefited from the early season business.

Saturday night the friendly proprietors of Ethno opened their doors, as did many of its Calle de la Virgen neighbours. Tucked away in the maze of downtown I-Town streets, the pleasant and popular Locura sensibly contracted the services of Manumission ressie Colin Peters just before he jumped on the boat to Barcelona. But don’t panic fans, he’ll be back in a couple of weeks.

Sunday the only place to be seen was at the trots in San Jordi. The heavily-backed Ice Cold took out the second handicap, accompanied by the sounds of MOR pop from the battered speakers. Cans of beer, one euro.
