Preview: Cocoon Ibiza 2013

There's no substitute for an original - Cocoon has pulled it out of the bag in a big way for 2013.

Techno nights have multiplied rampantly in Ibiza in the last few years, with practically every night of the week now offering clubbers a choice for where to get their deep and dark music fix. But there's no substitute for an original - and thus the techno giant Sven Väth remains unfazed, leading Cocoon into its fourteenth season on the island, years of experience, a rich history and solid reputation all combining in a party which has essentially perfected its art.

Cocoon season begins at Amnesia on the 10th of June, and will feature sets from Ricardo Villalobos in his Terrace abode, joined by Dorian Paic and Julien Bracht (live), plus Väth in the main room joined by Sascha Dive and Guy Gerber (live). As always at Cocoon nights, music is king, and events are organised accordingly. There are never more than two DJs and one live act booked on each floor, a sign of respect to the artist, who has enough time to present and develop a unique set. Taking that concept to its limits, Cocoon has always been a brilliant setting for the all-night-long sets and this year will continue that, with the added bonus of frequent terrace appearance by Väth. The 1st of July will be a real cracker, with all night long sets from both Sven Väth and Ricardo Villalobos, plus a live set from Henrik Schwarz.

From there on in it's pretty impossible to choose highlights, each night presenting the best names in the business and many more extended sets from our favourites. Despite both having residencies elsewhere on the island, Luciano and Loco Dice will be controlling the terrace on several occasions respectively, whilst main room techno enthusiasts can also look forward to multiple visits from Adam Beyer, Ben Klock and Chris Liebing. The 19th of August is a particularly tasty Monday, with Väth migrating to the terrace for a night with Richie Hawtin, whilst the brilliant Ellen Allien joins Beyer and Christian Burkhardt (live) in the main room. Another particularly promising date is the 16th of September, where the experimentalists DJ Koze and Roman Flügel join DJ W!ld in the main room, whilst Väth delivers another all-nighter in the terrace, broken only by Alejandro Mosso (live). The closing party falls on the 30th of September, with Väth, Villalobos and Raresh already confirmed.

Amnesia remains the ideal habitat for Cocoon, with some interesting adjustments to the DJ booth in the main room meaning we won't be gawking up at Papa Sven from the angle we're used to… Fear not Cocoon regulars – he'll still be able to get that loo paper rolling out into the dance floor! Regulars will also know that any Cocoon season is peppered with the most incredible pre and after parties, so keep an eye and ear peeled for news on those in 2013.

Tickets for the first four dates are available now at Spotlight, with the later dates on sale soon. We think this is an incredible answer to all of Cocoon's competition in Ibiza – where else in the world can you look forward to Mondays this much?!
