Ibiza - Pensioners' Paradise

We don't normally brag that much about Ibiza's transformation into a pensioners' paradise during the off season

We don't normally brag that much about Ibiza's transformation into a pensioners' paradise during the off season. Its mild climate, reasonably priced accommodation, and myriad bars and restaurants which remain open all year are certainly a magnet for the older generation.

This week two well-heeled old boys paid the island separate visits and enjoyed themselves to the full in the 'quiet' season. Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani (72) spent some time here with a group of friends, models and collaborators. The party dined well at top restaurants La Raspa and El Cigarral, strolled the streets of D'alt Vila and La Marina, and got down with it at Ibiza's top Jazz venue, the Teatro Pereyra, and of course Pacha disco 'til the early hours of the morning.

Also in town was comedy Pythoneer Terry Gilliam (66), who was here to promote the forthcoming International Film Festival of Ibiza and Formentera. Unlike Armani, who went everywhere by taxi, Gilliam was given the giant white limo and red carpet treatment for his arrival at the Marina Botafoch eatery where the festival - it kicks off on May 29th next year – was launched. Terry gave as good as he got and thrilled the crowd with an outrageous display of samba dancing with a couple of jiggly Brazilian girls on his first visit to Ibiza.

Glad you enjoyed your stay chaps.
