Every year the registrar of births on Ibiza publishes a list of the most popular names given to the newly born children. Here on Disco Island you’d think the influence of those overworked, underpaid demi-gods of the decks would rub off on the grateful populace and some of their names would creep into the list.
However this year not a single child born here was named after top DJs Armin, Hernan, Sander, Sven, Judge, Tall, Laurent, Satoshi, Armand, or Ferry (See Ibiza's favourite DJs)! Instead, the island Registrar tells us that the most popular name was the unremarkable Marc.
In the same theme, the changing demographics of Ibiza's change to a multi-cultural island were clearly illustrated when it was announced that the first baby to appear under a gooseberry bush in 2006 was called Hammed!
