Wild Palms - San Antonio

Think of San Antonio and probably one of the last things to come to mind

Think of San Antonio and probably one of the last things to come to mind would be trees. However there are nearly 240 trees around the fountains square in the town and they all need looking after.

As we write there's an important survey going on to determine the health and vitality of the trees, 161 of which are palms, and the methods used are the most up to date in all Europe and have been pioneered here in Ibiza. The magic piece of equipment being used is called a resistograph and it measures (you guessed it) the internal resistance of the tree.

Already it has shown that 6 palms have problems with their roots and a detailed study will be presented to the council when the survey is complete. Hopefully this will prevent accidents like the one last May in which an 87 year old woman was injured when a tree fell over.
