Exodus

Whilst not exactly of Biblical proportions and with little chance of the Med sea parting its waves, the Christmas exodus from the island has begun.

Whilst not exactly of Biblical proportions and with little chance of the Med sea parting its waves, the Christmas exodus from the island has begun.

About a quarter of the population of Ibiza is on the move, with up to 30,000 people heading (mostly) to the Spanish Mainland. Figures from the airport authorities reveal that 18,000 people, equivalent to the whole of San Antonio, are leaving by plane, and another 12,000 are going by sea.

The main motive for this mass exodus is to spend Christmas and New Year with family and friends on the peninsula and with any luck there will be the odd parking space in Ibiza town for those of us left behind.
