Hello Dollies

It may be the done thing in the rest of the world for white coated boffins

It may be the done thing in the rest of the world for white coated boffins to give advice about what washing powder to use or clone the odd sheep, but in the tiny Ibicencan hill village of San Agustin they still do things the traditional way.

For example, take three lady sheep, add one randy ram, and hey presto what have you got? Why, TEN baby lambs. This near statistical impossibility happened on the small holding of 78 year old María Marí Marí last week, when 2 of her sheep gave birth to 4 lambs each, and another sheep to two!

Maria who has been a shepherdess all her life can not remember even one sheep giving birth to as many as four lambs, let alone two, but she does remember a goat having 5 kids! Apparently, the island record for lamb births is held by a sheep in Santa Gertrudis, which had 5 lambs on one single occasion.

With news like this it's difficult to imagine why Ibiza only seems to be known for its discotheques and nightlife.
