Freeland and the 9 trash the famous terraza at last Tuesday's Carl Cox gig.
In a manner not dissimilar to that typically utilised by the stoutly-proportioned resident dj who lends his name to the production, Carl Cox @ Space has bulldozed its way to the top of the priority list for huge numbers of clubbers.
Up to five thousand clubbers a night made their way to Space on Tuesdays last year. In 2006 the pulling power of Carl Cox and friends looks likely to improve on those figures and in terms of street buzz now rivals the traditionally massive Matinee Saturdays/We Love Sundays weekend combo at the same club.

CC's success has allowed for eye-catching and certainly rather expensive programming. Opening party guest Danny Tenaglia is one of the biggest djs on the circuit, as is Laurent Garnier on the following week, as is Francois Kervorkian who played at the third installment on Tuesday.
Also on the bill was influential breaks dj Adam Freeland. He might look like a scruffy kid but Ads is in fact the squire of a totally hot ex-Manumission girl Sasha Moon and the owner of respected mid-sized record label Marine Parade, named after the Brighton (UK) street Freeland lived on.
Fellow South East Englanders Evil 9 are one of Freeland's star signings and the Tom Beaufoy half the duo also appeared at Space's alternative music showcase on Tuesday.

With Carl Cox playing till well past midnight on the sunset terrace it took an hour for curious souls to begin drifting onto the terraza. Initially it was a bit disorienting to hear something other than four four beats in that famous house. Bemused ravers stood around in clumps sipping drinks interspersed by the odd person going mental to the tearing breaks. But one by one all the susceptible succumbed, helped by the awesome power and clarity of the sound system. It really is like being grabbed, slapped soundly round the face and forced to dance.

The frequencies writhed from the speakers like living things. When the vocals kicked in it was as if the singer was located in your head, like when Evil 4.5 and Freeland put on the Digitalism remix of the Futureheads 'Skip To The End'. Oh my. What a tune. It was followed by more punchy, rocky, energy-laden tracks that impressed the ever-increasing crowd mightily.
While breaks and d'n'b are not unknown in Ibiza, nowhere else do they get the big room response they deserve. Has a new era begun?
