Stephen Wright, the British Ambassador to Spain has met with Pere Palau, the President of the Consell, or island government, and requested that steps should be taken to improve the security and image of the island.
Wright would like improvements to be made to the Ibiza - San Antonio road, which his government considers very dangerous, and also to eliminate drugs trafficking, which is also giving the island a poor image. This comes in a week when the police have arrested 11 Italians in possession of more than €3 million worth of ecstasy and when one man was killed and four others badly injured in a single weekend on the San Antonio road.
The ambassador represents the interests of over 700,000 Britons who holiday on Ibiza every year and make up 53% of the total 'visitor nights' spent on the island.
