Preview: We Love 2011 - Sundays at Space

Tickets for We Love @ Space

We Love, as Space’s headline party, will be into its 12th year when things kick off on the 12th June.

With the behemoth that is Space turning 22 this year, We Love has a lot of history to thrive on. They have not forgotten their past, they deliver in the present and work towards setting the standard for the future, and in turn represents this through their diverse programming across the various stages in the club throughout the season, catering for all whether your stomping about the place in La Terraza, La Discoteca, early on on the Sunset Terrace, El Salon, Premier Etage, or in the Red Box above La Discoteca.

So, why do we love ‘We Love’ we hear you ask? Well, as confusing a sentence as that is, we shall endeavor to answer this very question.

The value of history at a club should never be underestimated. Whilst a club of the future cannot simply rest on the foundations laid down in parties of years gone by and expect everything to be a success, it is of course a distinct advantage. The profile of Space's 22 year and We Love/Home's 12 year histories combine together to create a form of synergy that could be considered lacking from many parties around the world. People come to ‘We Love’ at Space having heard or experienced great things, with the people behind ‘We Love’ seeing it as their priority to ensure we all leave having witnessed something special. Something they achieve week after week!

The diverse and eclectic music policy of ‘We Love’ is a big draw, with the lineups providing something for everyone. So taking you through them, here are some of the highlights…

We have a strong techno vibe throughout many of the parties, starting with Carl Craig bringing his 20 Years Of Planet E show to the Discoteca on the opening night with Derrick May as support amongst others. Then at the complete opposite end of the spectrum you have the party liaison for the disco and funk massive; Greg Wilson, who shall no doubt be taking us back to the old school with his famed tape decks.

For the June 19th party Canadian Claude Von Stroke heads on back after some great feedback from the 2010 season, and Space favourites Groove Armada are back for another season ready to rock the Terraza once again, and 5 more times too!

As Canada continues to provide, Caribou will be making a special appearance on the 26th June, so expect wonderful things including the hit ‘Sun’, amongst many others. And the treats just keep on comin’. The lovely man that is Joris Voorn will be gracing us with his presence across 6 dates, the first being with Caribou.

For July, you get many of the artists named above for second helpings, AND the boys from Innerversions will be making a much welcomed appearance on the 24th bringing the likes of Ame, Dixon and Henrik Schwarz to the party.

So, as we look towards August and peak season, the 7th is a date which stands out with James Zabiela celebrating his birthday at the club. Cake included, but we suspect his wish has already come true with him playing 7 times over the course of the season, including one particular interesting party on August 21st with SLAM as they celebrate a monster 20 years of SOMA Records.

We Love... Space, Sunday September 26th 2010 - The Closing Fiesta from We Love on Vimeo.

September brings presents in the form of that French maestro Laurent Garnier, who will be jetting in on the 4th, and word on the street is he’s bringing his mates to perform live as L.B.S. Finally, hero of last year's closing party, Aphex Twin, returns on the 25th September for this years closing to try in some way to impress further, we wish them luck! The closing will of course be massive, and as lineups go, it’s a monster.

So, if you bring together the history, the venue with is amazing sound system and the calibre of people who absorb its sounds, it shows that ‘We Love’ is not simply one of the parties at Space, but the party. It is this diversity that epitomizes all that the party, the club and island is about; an eclectic music policy, friendliness as standard, and of upmost importance; having fun!

There was little to no production in the discoteca this year, just a green laser.

As for the terrace, on the 4th, there was a bizarre fake rock band, this was so bad we decided to use our pass out straight away and come back later! The second week I went, I got there a lot later as didnt want to experience the terrace again, and from what I was told it was empty.

Such a shame, as the terrace always used to be rocking by 6pm in previous years.

:(
I basically now treat it like another night event, if you think about how it was in years gone back you'll only feel depressed.

The days of getting up at 10am and having a vodka limon before heading to a packed out Space terrace are long gone.

To be fair to WLS the sunday I went to this year was excellent in terms of music and still had a blinder.

I'm not sure the Sunset Terrace has worked with the alternative nights. Last week with Jonathan Ulysses was amazing - good house - just as Sunset Terrace should be before midnight.

In their defence when these nights were being out together, Ushuaia was planning a US House night on a Sunday pre-midnight. Maybe they tried to mix things up on the Sunset as they thought everyone would be there. As it turned out Ushuaia never ran that night.

If I had studied the flier more thorough, maybe... however... I didn't. Lesson learnt.

And believe me... it wont happen again. Awful.

Having said that, the music in the doscoteca was great once it got going, but I think We Loves opening time just doesnt work anymore with this new licensing law. If I do go next year I wont bother getting in there until 11ish.

I think this is keeping alot of people away from We Love... early on Sundays more than ever because the next week after you went it was rammed at 9pm. Could hardly get through Sunset terrace and upstairs was the same too. The pumping house music of old was playing on the Sunset terrace...

All in all an amazing night and the music was brilliant in all the rooms.

Hey Sophie thanks so much for your help :) I might have a quick dinner nd head over early. I wanna check out funkagenda on the sunset terrace. J

Anyone have any idea of when it will get full in the closing party of We Love?
Posted by amber-leaf on 14 September 2011

Laurant Garnier LBS live last week at we luv was special!.....that is all
Posted by Uncle_Sevo on 11 September 2011

I tell you now, we arrived at ten to 8pm on the 4th September, the sunset terrace was open, the red box was open, and the Primer Etage was open.

In 2007 we got into space about 7pm and things were rocking, then used our passout. This time, there was hardly anyone in there, red box empty, most people hanging out on Primer Etage.

Sunset terrace was playing rock/indie rock and pop music, including a couple of abba tracks. My heart broke.

The Terrace and El Salon opened at 10pm but was pretty lifeless until about 11:30 until just before Steve Lawlers appearance.

Discoteca opened at 11pm I think.

At 12 the outdoor arenas turn their music right down, but still had a good vibe.

In short, I would never get in there any time before 10pm again. Maybe we were just unlucky. But the first few hours of We Love were the worst clubbing experience (in Ibiza) that I had ever had.

Hope this helps.

I want to add, that it was an amazing night. in future i will probably make the most of the wristbands and get in before 10:00, have a bevy on primer etage, then rock on.... it was a great night later on, and will be going again next year ;)
Posted by sophie_vip on 11 September 2011

Sorry to bother everyone but im just curious

For the "We Love Sundays" party what times do the the different areas start and finish.

From what i can gather the DISCOTECA and the Terrace open at 23:00 and finish at about 6.00 am.

So if you headed in pretty early in the afternoon is it worth it and which areas are open?

I'm toying with the idea of going in early this Sunday. Maybe Jon Ullyses will tempt people into the club before 10, but I'll probably just play it safe and go in about 2am.

It's good when the premier etage music is playing too though... hmm...

Nice one mate! I can deal with getting in before 9pm, checking the set times and getting out again.

i went in at 7 this year and about half 5 and 6 the last couple of years and have always found a good vibe on the sunset terrace:D

mind you did find it quite a bit emptier this year earlier on as opposed to the other times i have been but to be fair everytime before this year i have been to the opening so suppose it is automatically busier for that??

Try and get some sunset terrace action in daylight hours, thats my advice.

If you have a ticket with passout then use it wisely.
Posted by deepseadiver on 30 August 2011

such a pity...loved to go to we love at around 4pm (or max 6pm) and enjoy the sunset terrace until midnight - good times!
Posted by nostrum on 30 August 2011

Personally i wouldnt go any earlier than around about 11ish...

Cant remember what time we headed over there, but was definately after 10 thats for sure. Was nice drinking a few too many at Bora Bora than heading on over when youve met your limit with drink
