Review: Florence & The Machine at Ibiza Rocks

Another sell out at San Antonio rock central, this time for Florence & The Machine, with support from Kissey Sell Out and The Drums. McRackin reports!

And yet another sell out. After LCD Soundsystem last week, it was the turn for another New York band and one of the most hotly anticipated bands to be part of Ibiza Rocks this year: The Drums and Florence and the Machine... what a line-up. The busiest night of the season along with Dizzee Rascal (and the warmest too... so sticky-hot it wasn't even funny)!

Long before The Drums came on stage the place was rammed already. The new indie sensation from the other side of the Atlantic played mostly songs from their debut album (also the b side "'Don't be a jerk, Johnny"), with their Beach-Boys-meets-Joy-Division sound and all eyes on the frenetic singer and his robot-style moves!

Kissy Sell Out was back after warming up for Maxïmo Park some weeks ago and, like in that occasion, he also did the Ibiza Rocks after show afterwards!

I always regreted missing Florence and the Machine last year at the Radio 1 party in the hotel (same with Jamie Cullum at Cafe Mambo some years ago... how that happened I don't know but it still pisses me off everytime I think about it), so I was well happy when they were announced for this year's Ibiza Rocks. After the crowd wished her a happy birthday (it was her 24th), Florence Welch appeared on stage barefoot looking radiant and stunning. Apart from most songs of their multi-selling album (surprisingly enough no "Kiss with a fist" which, according to the set list, was supposed to be played as an encore), we had the chance to listen a new song ("Strangeness and charm")... AWESOME!

Another fantastic gig followed by the spectacular fireworks of Sant Bartomeu... a perfect continuation to a magic night. Only three dates left... next tuesday: Kele Okereke, singer of Bloc Party, lands in Ibiza to present his recently released solo album!

Favourite moment of the night: "You've got the love" which, as expected, got the biggest reaction from the crowd
