Tucked away in the back streets of Figueretas (nr. the McDonalds roundabout), this former strip club is so hidden that it’s hard to find even when you sort of know where it is. What was once the Blue Rose, then became Blu and so utilised one of the few Discoteca licences on the island, of which there are likely to be anymore granted in the coming years.
Firstly, let’s get one thing straight, Blu is tiny, it’s smaller than some of the smallest rooms of the big clubs (think somewhere like the Caja Roja at Space), but therein lies its charm. Moreover, the type of events it has developed a reputation for have all played towards those who like their clubbing close, intimate and dark.

The most well known events here are the Mini-Cocoon nights, called Nano, allegedely after Sven Vath himself played an afterhour and liked it so much he wanted to set up permanent gigs here. Those events ran through the Winter of 07/08 and then continued every Wednesday in summer 2008 with guests of the calibre of Tobi Neumann, Loco Dice and Sven again dropping in unannounced at least once. Monza have already held a pre-season opener here in 2009.
Definitely off the beaten track and almost totally out of the consciousness of the majority of the clubbing masses who come to Ibiza, those are the exact reasons why having a top buzz at Blu has an added sense of excitement. Catch it before Mixmag gets its dirty hands on it but make sure there is actually something happening there first.
