EP review: Danny Daze 'Four EP'

A collaborative effort of pure brilliance creating an undeniably raw sound.

Artist: Danny Daze
EP: Four EP
Label: Omnidisc
Release date: 16/02/15

Danny Daze delivers a raw EP collaborating with some of his favourite and equally talented producers in the industry. The four tracks explore so much depth and are diverse in their sound, highlighting his trademark versatility. Omnidisc's 'Four EP' is intricately designed to support the audience on a whirlwind musical experience with such a variety of tone. It certainly expresses the future direction for this compelling artist and will be intriguing to see what rare beats he produces next.

The EP opens with Las Caderas, a rhythmically adventurous effort from both Daze and 214, a producer known for his dark and funky electro sound. This track stepladders in intensity with frantic hats and a gritty rhythm. The tribal bass line progresses towards the ultimate drop, an undeniably thrilling moment making this the perfect club-ready sound. Easing the pace to an overly sensual moment of the EP partly produced by newcomer Deroboter, Drowning has an ocean aesthetic crafted from a shimmering foreground of soft keys. A subtle yet brisk bass line is maintained throughout with looping chimes creating a tranquil vibe.

Throbbing with bass and tinted with grime, the most entrancing track of this EP is Hex, produced alongside Drvg Cvltvre. An otherworldly sound carries the listener on an unusual, yet enthralling journey to the darkest depths of the dance floor. Progressive groaning subs fused with an off-tone synthy sequence creates an almost sci-fi feel. Chain Breaker has a slightly more simplistic melody, with an extended percussion driven introduction blended nicely with some airy, abstracted vocal snippets. With compliments to Philipp Gorbachev and Daze's energy, this track certainly has a clear-cut beat, with deep bass variation making it an intriguing home listen.

Overall, I praise Danny Daze for his bold selection of taste, skills and vision shown throughout this EP, proving he is one of the most forward-thinking and original producers of this generation.

Danny Daze has also just launched Sunday Morning, a new podcast series exploring the experimental electronic realms of Daze's wunderkind mind. To be released on the first Sunday of every month.
