As work continues apace on the €15 million conversion of Ibiza's old castle into a luxury hotel the construction workers are building up whilst archeologists are digging down.

As was expected the whole area is a treasure trove of history buried underground and even archeologists are surprised by some of the discoveries being made.

Fortunately for the archeologists and historians involved, these buried relics of the past are being incorporated into the structure of the new Parador by the Island Government so that guests and the public can view them.

Glass 'partitions' will be constructed in the new Spa to protect and give perfect views of a section of wall from Ibiza's Islamic period and a series of walls from buildings dating from Pre-Renaissance times – all while we're bubbling away in the Jacuzzi.

It's certainly an improvement in policy from the last Government's heritage Department, which was heavily criticised for not preserving archeological finds during the construction of the new 'motorways.'
