52,680 kilometres

Being the opposition party must be the easiest job in politics. All you have to do is moan about what the other lot in power have done even though you did exactly the same things the last time you were in charge.

In Ibiza town the right wing PP opposition have been boning up on their geography to criticise the left wing Mayoress, Lurdes Costa. They have calculated that the 52,680 kilometres Costa travelled in a year to take part in tourist fairs, conventions and meetings of the World Heritage cities was equivalent to travelling one and a half times round the world.

They say that the people of Ibiza have been deprived of their mayor sitting in her office in Ibiza town hall for a total of 37 days and deserve better than a 'part time mayor.'

They would have a very good point were Ibiza still a tomato republic relying on sales of vegetables in the market. These days – and they are difficult days – Ibiza's economy is based on tourism and needs all the promotion possible, something you can't do sitting at a desk all day!
