24 different languages actively spoken in the region

You've probably noticed on your visits to Ibiza that the names on the road signs and maps are not quite the same. The Ibicencos are proud of their Catalan (a language that's a 'mix' of French and Spanish) heritage and continue to use it as the language of the home, and more tellingly, Government.

For those interested in language, there's a fascinating exhibition just started in Santa Eulalia about the languages spoken on the shores of the Mediterranean sea. Unbelievably, there are 24 different languages actively spoken in the region which illustrate both the differences and similarities between the cultures and civilisations here.

It takes place until 10th December in the Exhibition Hall of Santa Eulalia in Calle San Jaime from 18.00 to 21.00 on Monday to Friday and 10.00 to 14.00 and 17.00 to 20.00 on Saturdays.
