new route from Denia to Formentera

Numerical tales from the Ibiza and the Balearic Islands.

Ferry company Balearia has places for 40,000 passengers a week for the two ports in Valencia – Denia and Valencia city – to the Balearics. A new route from Denia to Formentera is included in these figures.

Ibiza potatoes are being subsidised to the tune of €600,000 this year by the Agriculture and Fisheries department. It's to help offset the effects of unfavourable weather conditions earlier this year.

The Balearics spend less on publicity than any other autonomous region in Spain. The amount of €1.27 per capita compares unfavourably with Madrid's spend of €5.80!

The Guardia Civil and local police caught no less than 15 drivers in only one day in drink driving controls in Ibiza this weekend.

Formentera's budget for public spending this year is €22.3 million. With only around 9000 inhabitants its per capita budget is around double that of Ibiza town which will spend €57 million but has roughly 47,000 residents.
