Stop Press - Ibiza!

Ibiza town has Mediterranean views

Ibiza has been the white hot subject matter for the heavyweight press corps in recent weeks. Long the summer stamping ground for the tabloids in search of soundbites and snaps of soap stars in the sun, the island has been in the news recently when a couple of discos and a bar were closed and a ship hit a rock causing some of its fuel to leak out.

In came the harbingers of doom, as once again the end of Ibiza clubbing was predicted by The Times, which said 'The party’s over: Ibiza’s clubs count the cost of dance drugs crackdown,' and The Grauniad, where author Stephen Armstrong posed the question, 'is this the end of Ibiza clubbing?' whilst also making some alarming factual errors. The Independent, obviously on a tight budget, relied on a reporter in Madrid for their article 'Fuel spills and club closures mean the party's over in Ibiza.' Meanwhile The Telegraph got themselves into a 'Reporter offered drugs in Ibiza Disco Shocker!' when in a SPECIAL report Fiona Govan told all about 'Ibiza's failing drug clampdown.'

On a lighter note the Telegraph's Charlie Norton trotted out all the old clichés (and a fair number of synonyms for the word hedonism) about Ibiza's famous for being famous bars and watering holes in a hot and cool guide to the island.
The Times' Style Guide even managed to work in 'sybaritic' and 'schadenfreude' in Kate Spicer's article 'Ibiza's very important party people.' Word up Kate! Yet another novelist spilled the beans in the Telegraph. Louise Harwood revealed the hitherto little known fact that Ibiza town has Mediterranean views in her 'My kind of Town' report. Obviously no surprise endings in her books then!

On a sartorial theme, the mail has ipod loving dandy and GQ editor Dylan Jones tell us what he likes to wear in Ibiza and The Mirror has a lovely photo of James Blunt wearing a blue cowboy hat.
And we were beginning to think we were the only ones saying anything positive about Ibiza!
