ONE MILLION more passengers

The signs from Europe augur well for the forthcoming tourist season in Ibiza. Both the independent and package sectors of the market are showing signs of a dramatic increase in numbers this year. Down at the airport there has been an enormous increase in the amount of ‘slots’ reserved by the various airlines. An astonishing 25% more planes than last year will be arriving here which could mean up to ONE MILLION more passengers passing through the arrivals hall.

Meanwhile, consultants ACNielson are also predicting a rise in numbers in the more traditional package tour market. Already the British market is 17% up on last year’s bookings, and the Germans, World Cup or not, have reserved 20% more places than last year.

Tourist authorities are saying that the number and frequency of flights by budget airlines is a great help to the industry which coupled with the desertion of eastern Mediterranean resorts by tourists has led to the increase here in Ibiza.
