left the city closed to traffic until after midday

The good, the bad, and the ugly on the highways and byways of Ibiza.

Some of the streets around the old market in Ibiza will be improved and pedestrianised at a cost of €901,000 after Christmas. The council is thoughtfully delaying the project until after the holiday period because there's a busy Christmas market going on in the area at the moment.

A bike race on Sunday left a nasty taste in the mouths of some of the emergency service personnel at Can Misses hospital. An hour's delay starting it left the city closed to traffic until after midday and some doctors trapped and unable to reach patients – one had to give instructions to other emergency staff via his mobile phone – but fortunately no life threatening situations occurred.

No Volem AutopistaProtesters against the new 'motorways' being constructed on the island have pointed out the strange situation on the Ibiza to San Antonio road. Privilege Discotheque will have its own roundabout to enter and exit the road, whereas the fire engines from the only fire station on the island will only be able to get onto the road towards Ibiza. They will have to travel in this direction until they are able to change tack at the big new Montecristo roundabout to reach any emergency in San Antonio!
