a session with a psychologist!
Look out all you naughty motorists because our Ibiza traffic cops have new weapons in their ceaseless struggle against our abjectly hopeless drivers. From today until 15th September the police helicopter will be on a weekly rotor (boom, boom) patrolling the skies above our slowly growing motorway system. With the ability to photograph wrong doers from a height of 250 metres nobody will be safe from this beady eye in the sky.
Any motoring infractions will be punished with a fine, and as from 1st July, a possible loss of points from the driving license. Spain has now adopted the same system as in Britain for deducting points - the amount depending on the severity of the infraction - from the license. Drivers who have lost points can recuperate them by undertaking a 12 hour course costing €170, and anyone who has lost all their points has to shell out €320 for their course, which incidentally includes a session with a psychologist! Last year 264 drivers lost their license in Ibiza and this year we're already up to 115.
And finally, our tip of the week. Should you be fined by the Guardia Civil you can insist on paying the agent on the spot and receive a 30% discount! It's a fact which is a closely guarded secret due to the extra hassle it causes the boys in green, but one which we think everyone should know about - especially given the amount of time it takes to pay the fine in Ibiza town's full to bursting traffic office.
