More news on 'new for old' comes to us from San Jose where the beleaguered Mayor and Chief Architect, both under fire because of 'alleged' shady dealings announced plans for the conversion of the town's cinema. Costing 600 million Pesetas, (the mayor still works in the currency we abandoned four years ago) the cinema will become a much-needed social and cultural centre for the village. Let's face it, any place which holds a big ceremony for the opening of its new traffic lights (as San Jose did last week) needs a social life!

Meanwhile in Ibiza, the famous statue of General Vara de Rey which presides over the square of the same name, is to be spruced up to its former glory. Students at the Monument Restoration School will make the clean up of the stone and bronze a top priority project this term.
