...specially constructed 12 metre high Christmas 'tree'...

Ibiza is slowly but surely catching up with the rest of the western world as Christmas here becomes more and more commercialised.

This year the special illuminations for Christmas will be switched on on the 5th December - a whole 20 days BEFORE Christmas. This will coincide with the opening of the special Christmas market held in the Vara de Rey and will feature as its centrepiece the specially constructed 12 metre high Christmas 'tree' with over 6000 tiny lightbulbs.

Sadly this year, the town's main thoroughfare, the Avenida España, will not be decorated as major roadworks are still in progress, and so will have no chance of winning the €900 prize for the best decorated street.
