Poor Man's Turkey

With the prosperity and fame brought by mass tourism over the last 30 years it's easy to forget that as little as 50 years ago Ibiza was an impoverished Mediterranean backwater, almost unheard of on the world stage. Back in those days, Christmas dinner for most folk consisted not of today's favourites like lobsters, crabs, and other shellfish, and dare we say it, not even Turkey! No, at that time all that island inhabitants could afford was a fish called the 'gerret' (also known as poor man's fish), which just happened to be in fairly plentiful supply around the 25th December. Now in an effort to revive ancient traditions, the Island government has published in all the daily newspapers, an old recipe for gerret in vinaigrette, provided by one of Ibiza's most famous restaurants, Ca n'Alfredo and it looks absolutely delicious.
