Ibiza, like the rest of Spain, has a quaint tradition for New Years Eve. On each of the 12 chimes as the clock strikes midnight we eat one of 12 grapes, if you eat all 12 grapes then luck will be with you for the 12 months of the New Year. In Ibiza town the council lays on a free fiesta in the big conference centre, where grapes, Cava, party hats, balloons, and streamers are provided gratis for revellers as they dance Paso dobles and Valencianas to the accompaniment of not one, but two orchestras. Then at dawn free chocolate and churros (sweet pastries) are given out for free in the Vara de Rey. It's pretty much the same story in Santa Eulalia and San Antonio where marquees have been specially erected for the festive frolics, and the orchestras Trébol and Etiqueta Roja will play.
