Things to do this month on Ibiza - January 2017

Our choice picks to enjoy the island to the max

A new month and a New Year 2017. We're all feeling a little food over-indulged here at Ibiza Spotlight, but we're still up for having fun. There's plenty to do too with live music, parties and even a bit of keeping fit. Happy New Year to you all!

The power of flowers

Stride into the age of free love this Saturday 7 January with San Antonio's annual Flower Power festival. You are invited to wear your finest bell bottoms, big hair wigs and whatever hippie gear takes your fancy. The main party begins from 21 h in the marquee on Passeig de ses Fonts with the fun spilling out onto the streets as the night progresses. Many restaurants nearby are doing special Flower Power menus if you get hungry and if with kids, there's a special hippie party earlier on for them from 18 h in the same marquee. Peace, love and hair grease!

It's all fun at the fair

What better way than to spend a day or night on the rides at the funfair? The Feria de Atracciones in Ibiza Town runs until the end of January and is a great day out for kids and the child in all of us. With around 35 different rides and attractions, you won't be short of thrills. It opens every day from 18 h to 22 h and also from 11 h to 13 h on weekends and national holidays. We'll see you there with a giant pink candy floss.

Dancing through the winter

Regular readers of this feature will know that thankfully we have Pacha to keep us going through winter, so yes whenever you visit the island there will be a club night for you. There's Ten on 7 January with Pacha resident DJs; then on the 14th, Electric Ibiza lands featuring DJs like, 2Vilas and Matt Tolfrey. Look out for the hugely popular Lío summer night, Vintage from Sebastian Gamboa with DJs Oscar Colorado and Angel Linde on the 21st too. Pacha really does keep you dancing all the year round.

Flamenco two ways

Fans of flamenco should head over to San Antonio where the first ever “Portmany Flamenco Festival” is being held at Cine Regio on 16 January. From 21.30 h you will get a history of flamenco (in Spanish) followed by a flamenco/jazz fusion show, reinterpreting the songs of the greats like Paco de Lucia, Camaron and the more contemporary Estrella Morente. If you want Andalusian flamenco rock, then a couple of days before on the 14th from 23 h in Passeig de ses Fonts there's a free concert from legendary band Medina Azahara. Go west, life is musical there!

Run, run, run

If the January diets haven't grabbed you or if you want to keep up that fitness programme, then sign up for Santa Eulalia's Pujada Extrem, a short 2.2 km race on 22 January from 12 h at the town's church Puig de Missa. All kinds of trophies are up for grabs across all age ranges and there's even a mini race for kids. You can sign up here (link in Spanish) and the race is free, though a suggested donation to their chosen charity is recommended. Time to air those trainers.

And also...

You will find a whole lot more cool things to do on the island in our daily events calendar, so do check it out. Looking for a stylish and well-located Ibiza hotel? The gorgeous Art Deco Es Vivé is now taking bookings for 2017.
