Gay Bars in San Antonio (Sant Antoni)

To my knowledge there isn’t any officially gay bars/clubs in San Antonio but from personal experience I have hardly ever felt out of place there. Would I ‘get off’ with a guy down the middle of the west end? Probably not, but that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy a great night out.  San Antonio I would split into 3 sections. The West End, The Sunset Strip and The [San Antonio] Bay.

The West End

The West End is a section of bars in a very tight knit area and yes it is EXACTLY like you see on the TV.  People, bars and P.R’s everywhere, its bloomin’ manic at points and Stag and Hen Do’s rule the roost, especially at either side of the summer season (June & September). 

I’m sure some gay folk wouldn’t set foot near it, but it is what it is and I wouldn’t change it. It’s definitely the ‘different’ option but I would just pop down to just experience it.

The usual cliental down there isn’t as young as you may think. I would say 18-35-ish, with a few older parties there too.  Of course there can be groups of lairy lads which would make anyone feel uncomfortable but overall the general feeling is a lot more tolerant than you would probably expect.

The bar selection is endless with everything from Soul & Motown, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s bars, R ‘n’ B, Dance, Scottish, Irish, Welsh, English, Danish, Spanish, Rock, Indie and Cheese. So you should find something you like out of that lot.

The Sunset Strip

Some of the most famous bars in the world are right in San Antonio with sunset views to die for.  The great thing about the area is I have personally seen many a gay couple walking down there in bliss.  So for me it is a lot more openly tolerant than the West End if you wanted a drink with your partner. Obviously the drinks are just that *bit* dearer but if the West End is too much for you then this might be just up your street. 

The Bay

San Antonio bay stretches quite a distance with easily an hour’s walk from one side to the other. The bars down here are generally more family orientated with many a bar offering entertainment.  Normally a Take That tribute or Hypnotist can be found in many a bar but there are some youthful bars around there too. Again this is more family orientated as a whole so if you want a more balanced holiday or night out then this could be your cup of tea.
