For a group of walking aficionados who love exploring, Walking Ibiza’s Hard private walks will help you stretch your limits. These walks are up to 12 km in length for up to 5 hours of duration. Expect plenty of hills to stretch those leg muscles, with some trickier terrain, gravel paths and a bit of scrambling along the way. Note that this and other Hard walks may have loose stones underfoot on parts of the route and less shaded pathways. A good level of fitness and walking experience is recommended.
As an added bonus for Ibiza Spotlight readers, Toby Clarke, the affable founder of Walking Ibiza will run all Easy, Medium and Hard private walks booked through us.
You can choose your own date, time and walk from Walking Ibiza’s many tried and tested routes. You can find full descriptions of all the walks on their website. Here are our two suggestions taken from their most popular Hard walks.
Es Portitxol walk
There are few places left on Ibiza that are truly isolated, magical, beautiful and peaceful. Es Portitxol is one of those places, being only accessible by walking or by boat, meaning many Ibiza visitors never even see it. Here, there is a lovely bay for swimming and snorkeling with crystal clear waters and easy access from the pebble beach.
The walk down has a good firm pathway, leading onto an old fisherman's’ route up through the forest with stunning views back of the bay and out across the Mediterranean. Once the top has been reached, after a 300 m climb, it’s a gentle walk through a lovely fertile valley past almond, fig, olive and carob trees.
Atlantis is known among locals and those that have been there as one of the spiritual centres of Ibiza. This walk is as mystical as the name Atlantis conjures up. You can walk past and wonder at the strange carvings and rock formations in this part of the island with your guide revealing its secrets on the way. You will pass wonderful paintings left behind by a Japanese hippie many years ago as well as energy spirals which you get to walk into. You will also discover caves that are still used to this day as well as some great rock carvings. All this and a visit to the Es Vedrà pirate tower with one of the most famous views of this magical rock.
